We asked Kellie from Nest of Posies 16 quirky questions! This DIY blogger who loves to entertain and craft is currently remodeling her house with projects galore! Head to Kellie’s blog for the rest of this interview and all the behind-the-scenes action at her house!
What’s your DIY weapon of choice? 99.9% of the time, a can of spray paint. Spray Paint is magical fairy dust. My tool of choice (for the crafter in me as well) is those really pointy scissors with really weird handles. Man, I love those things! I especially love when the spray paint & the scissors make beautiful things together!
What are 3 words that describes your blog? A creative, seasonal, lifestyle blog. I am a sucker for the seasons, y’all. Especially Fall.
Tell us about a time when you had a DIY fail (we’ve all had them!) It feels like I have DIY fails every week lately. Like big, monumental ones! We have owned our #newoldmtnhome for a year now. We purchased a foreclosure that had been vacate for 4+ years. Its all trial and errors on some things we do. We truly are living and learning as we renovate and remodel this foreclosure.
Words of wisdom for someone remodeling on a budget? PLAN! Recycle, upcycle, plan again, ask friends if they want to exchange a DIY weekend. Your neighbor’s budget may be a lot bigger than the one you’re working with, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be resourceful. Craigslist, ask around on FB, you’ll be surprised what people may want to get rid of. If you need professionals to come and help you, get many quotes and go with your gut. This is probably one of the best examples I can give in a picture:
We hired painters to help us with our #newoldmtnhome. Since we hired them, they have become very dear friends of ours. Now we trade out days of DIY projects and help each other. You never know when a relationship with a contractor you hired will turn to gold! You can read about our Fireplace Makeover here.
How did you become interested in blogging? I started my blog 2 weeks before my twins were born in 2008. I had no idea what I was doing, I didn’t even know how to make a “clickable link” in my blog posts. I started my blog as a way for family to keep up with my kids. But it eventually turned into so much more! I’m still amazed at how it’s evolved. I do miss those days of sharing our family pictures. But blogging has evolved and changed so much. But whenever I can, I do incorporate my family in my blog. Because they’re my heartbeat!
Strangest decoration in your house? Ha! Right now its Summer, but I have Christmas décor up for some Christmas posts I’m working on. Again, I’m using my motto to plan ahead.
